Alongside our architectural projects, home extensions, renovations and barn conversions for home-owners throughout Birmingham and the wider Midlands area, over the last two years we have been working in partnership with Bournville Village Trust on their ten year project to replace all of the original timber windows throughout the Conservation Area.
There are over 450 properties in the Bournville Village Conservation Area that are managed by Bournville Village Trust. The majority of them still having the original single glazed timber windows in place. Many of them in surprisingly good condition considering they are over 110 years old.
At a time when climate change and energy performance of properties needs to be improved the single glazed windows were no longer fit for purpose, and BVT have instigated a programme of replacements to vastly improve the energy performance of their tenants homes. Over the last two years we have measured over 75 archetype windows and doors to the millimetre for Conservation Area planning applications, as well as now having measured in the region of 200 individual properties and nearly 1000 windows!
We have planning approvals in place for all of the replacements. And now as you can see the first windows have now been installed, matching the original dimensions pretty much to the millimetre but double glazed and fully draught-proofed! Beautiful!
