This 1970s house on the Bournville Village Trust Estate in Bournville was blessed with a considerable amount of space, but with none of it in quite the right place! A previous rear extension had created a long narrow kitchen separated from the garden by a covered external verandah, and a series of utility spaces at the back of the garage.

This project was all about the insides of the house, with very little new external building work. We infilled the existing external covered space and then set about comprehensively re-arranging the internal spaces to create the spacious, brightly lit new open plan kitchen diner, with great access to the garden, bringing daylight deep in to the middle of the house. Alongside the new kitchen, diner, seating area, there is a nook for the children’s play area. The hall was re-configured to create a cloakroom space. Space taken from the under utilised garage has been used to form a utility room, and ground floor shower room.

Beautifully finished internally, with design choices such as the internal screen inspired by the period features of the house, the owners have completed the project with lovely fixtures and fittings to create a sociable, comfortable and relaxing space for the family to enjoy together.

As part of the Bournville Estate we managed the submission to the Local Authority, and the BVT consent, and produced the set of detailed construction drawings for Building regulation applications and building works.
