Some sunny photographs to brighten up our days from a trip to Barnt Green and this exciting addition to a Victorian Terrace… Remember the sunshine? (Written in mid-December for context!)
At the back of this pretty Victorian terrace there was a series of random additions, a Heath Robinson style sun room that was no kind of space in which to spend a sunny afternoon, and a collection of cupboards 🙂
The rear wing of the property was narrow and we needed some additional width to make a usable kitchen dining space. We pushed out to the side, using a section of the existing wing to house a shower room and utility, but beyond that we widened the extension out. In this wider section we put in corner windows to erode the corners of the extension and really open up the space to the garden and the side of the house, to make connections back to the main rooms of the property, and to flood the new space with daylight. The adjoining extension allowed us to add high level clerestory windows alongside roof lights to make a bright and light addition to the home. A real contrast to the original, more cosy spaces in the house.
We also re-organised and simplified the necessary ancillary spaces for a family home. A downstairs shower room and a utility space keep the kitchen diner clean and un-cluttered… apart from the dog!
