- Grade 2 Listed Victorian Italianate Villa

- Beautifully detailed contemporary garden room extension
- Completed October 2018.
We were lucky to be given the opportunity to design a new garden room extension to this beautiful Italianate Victorian villa dating from circa 1850. The property has been wonderfully restored throughout by the owner and the final element was a new garden room to allow the owners to enjoy the mature and established south facing garden. Beautiful and imposing the house may be but the connection to the garden left something to be desired.
To the rear of the kitchen existing outhouses occupied the space between the back of the kitchen and the garden. Full Listed Building consent was required to remove the existing outbuildings, although they did not add much to the property they were original to the house.
In place of the outbuildings a beautiful jewel like garden room was created. Simple in appearance the joy of this new garden room is in the proportion, the choice of materials, and careful modern detailing. A zinc clad and glazed box creating a wonderful new living space embedded in the secluded rear garden, that adds the spectacular to the back elevation of this wonderful period property. The whole rear of the building is enhanced by the new addition. Contemporary architecture in perfect harmony with the best of period Edgbaston homes.
Internally elegantly furnished and finished, with an internal connection to the kitchen dining space this new addition provides the family with an informal and exciting new family garden room, creating a modern connected living space in the most elegant of surroundings.
